People: From Tony Mowbray to John Collins

John CollinsI was very sad to see Tony Mowbray leave Hibs. To my mind he has been the best manager that Hibs have had for a long time, maybe since Eddie Turnbull. Hibs fans want to see great attacking football and for two and a half years that’s exactly what we got. Mowbray will do really well with WBA and should one day be managing one of the top teams in England.

John Collins was the Hibees best player in the 80s (even better than George Best) and the first £1m Scottish transfer when he joined Celtic. Hibs are taking a big risk but I think he might just have what it takes to turn a team of highly skilled youngsters that love playing creative football into a team that can win on a more consistent basis. Here’s hoping anyway 🙂

  1. Mowbray will be a very hard act to follow, but I guess it was inevitable that English money would pull him south eventually. Collins was definitely one of the most skillful and intelligent players ever to don a Hibs, Celtic, Monaco or Scotland strip – if he can translate that same intelligence to management and coaching then Hibs should have a good few years ahead of them. As a Celtic supporter, I think it’s a toss-up between the ‘Tic and the Hibs as to who has the best buch of young players on tap right now!

And…good to see a Gala boy done good!
